Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around identifying a specific term related to the surface of water in a graduated cylinder, particularly in a chemistry context. Participants are seeking clarification on the terminology used to describe this phenomenon.

Discussion Character

  • Homework-related
  • Conceptual clarification
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant urgently seeks the term for the top of the water, expressing frustration in finding it.
  • Another participant suggests the term "meniscus" as the answer.
  • A different participant encourages self-research, noting that the term is common in chemistry and can be found through online searches related to burettes or titrations.
  • Some participants express concern that the question may be a last-minute homework query.
  • There is a mention of "vinculum" as a possible term, which is then questioned and compared to "meniscus." Several participants seem to confuse or correct each other regarding the spelling and terminology.

Have you tried to figure this our yourself? It's a very common term in chemistry and if you Google on burette or titration, you're almost certain to stumble on it.

Posts crossed. I tried not to just give the answer because it seems obvious that someone is looking for last minute homework answers.

It happens.

I just kept searching "tip of water, chemistry, tube". I really couldn't find it. Thank you, JGM_14, you know how it feels.

How to read a graduated cylinder. Google it.
