Where to find a schematic for a push-button combination cypher lock

AI Thread Summary
Building a mechanical push-button combination lock presents challenges due to the lack of available schematics or detailed designs. The goal is to create a simple yet effective mechanical lock that operates with a fixed unlock pattern. The complexity of the design can be minimized by focusing on fewer moving parts, making the construction process easier. Utilizing clear plastic sheets for drawing can help visualize the mechanism of each button and how they interact, aiding in the design process. The emphasis remains on developing a mechanical solution rather than an electronic one, as the user seeks to replicate the functionality of traditional push-button locks.

im trying to build a cypher-type push-button non-electrical combination lock. the problem is there are no threads/schematics/drawings/specs/diagrams that actually instruct how the push button mechanics work. is there somewhere i could be looking for a schematic?

You could be creative, try coming up with your own design.

Given it's mechanical, it's going to have a fixed unlock pattern. Shouldn't take much to come up with something that would do it.

How complex do you want the design to be?

of course, i want the design as simple as possible, but just as effective as the push-button type lock. the easier the design, the less pain in the rear building it i am being creative, but there are so many moving parts in one of those locks, it's difficult to keep track of what-is-doing-what when i draw it up on paper.

If you mean just as effective as an electronic lock, you'll never get that.

I'd recommend clear plastic sheet to draw on. You can draw the mechanism for each button and layer them so you can see how they fit together / interact. But, with the added advantage of being able to see each individual one.

i don't care much for the electronic locks. the mechanical ones are the type I'm trying to duplicate. thanks for the idea about the clear paper.

In my discussions elsewhere, I've noticed a lot of disagreement regarding AI. A question that comes up is, "Is AI hype?" Unfortunately, when this question is asked, the one asking, as far as I can tell, may mean one of three things which can lead to lots of confusion. I'll list them out now for clarity. 1. Can AI do everything a human can do and how close are we to that? 2. Are corporations and governments using the promise of AI to gain more power for themselves? 3. Are AI and transhumans...
Sorry if 'Profile Badge' is not the correct term. I have an MS 365 subscription and I've noticed on my Word documents the small circle with my initials in it is sometimes different in colour document to document (it's the circle at the top right of the doc, that, when you hover over it it tells you you're signed in; if you click on it you get a bit more info). Last night I had four docs with a red circle, one with blue. When I closed the blue and opened it again it was red. Today I have 3...
