SUMMARY

The discussion outlines the sequence of astronomical events that could impact Earth, specifically: 1) the Sun engulfing the Earth in approximately 5 billion years, 2) the Earth's magnetic field reversing every 500,000 years until the core solidifies, 3) the Moon drifting away, which will eventually stabilize, and 4) the Andromeda galaxy merging with the Milky Way, an event that will have minimal noticeable effects on Earth. Each event is characterized by its timeline and implications for Earth and its inhabitants.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of astronomical timelines and events
  • Basic knowledge of Earth's magnetic field dynamics
  • Familiarity with tidal forces and their effects on Earth
  • Awareness of galactic structures and interactions
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the timeline of solar evolution and its impact on planetary bodies
  • Study Earth's magnetic field reversals and their geological significance
  • Explore the effects of lunar distance on Earth's tides and climate
  • Investigate the Andromeda-Milky Way merger and its implications for the solar system
USEFUL FOR

Astronomers, astrophysicists, educators, and anyone interested in the long-term future of Earth and cosmic events.

Could you guys list what's going to happen in order for me thanks.

1) Sun engulfs the earth
2) Earths magnetic field disintegrates
3) The moon travels too far away and we lose the tides
4) Andromeda galaxy kills us

Thanks again

About 5Bn yr
2) Earths magnetic field disintegrates
The Earth's field drops to nothing and reappaers the other way round about every 0.5M yr, it's not a big deal. The Earth's field will finally stop when the core solidifies - probably longer than 5bn yr
3) The moon travels too far away and we lose the tides
Not an expert but I think the earth-moon distance stabilises at some value. What you have to worry about are Earth-sun tidal locking, when we end up with the same side facing the sun.
4) Andromeda galaxy kills us
The andromeda merger won't even be noticed unless you are an astonomer. The stars in a galaxy are rather far apart - it's like releasing a couple of toy boats on opposite sides of the pacific and claiming that they merge.
