Which University Is Best for Undergrad: Winnipeg or Waterloo?

Hi all,

I'm a grade 12 student in Winnipeg, who's looking at options for where to go for undergrad. The two main options I'm looking at right now are the University of Winnipeg, and the University of Waterloo. At both, I'd want to take Physics with a Mathematical stream. UWinnipeg is far cheaper and closer to home, obviously, but I was wondering if anyone knows if there is any major academic advantage to going to Waterloo? I plan on applying for a Rhodes in 4th year, so that would also play a role as well.

The academic advantages of Waterloo?

Well, in my opinion, Waterloo has a really good Mathematical Physics Program. You could check their academic calendar for the courses that they offer here:http://ugradcalendar.uwaterloo.ca/page/MATH-Mathematical-Physics

The courses they offer seem to be quite comprehensive, and guess what? The program is heavily math-based, so I think you'll like it.

Secondly, you could also consider the fact that Waterloo is very close to Perimeter Institute for theoretical Physics, so if you really like physics and math, I guess that you would feel at home over there.

However, one main disadvantage is that I think that competition might be a little tough at Waterloo, but again, if you really like physics and math, then a little competition should not be too bad in my opinion.

University of Toronto has an excellent Math&Physics Specialist program, I wonder why you are not considering it?
Waterloo also has a strong program academically. I do not know anything about Winnipeg's program.
