Why is cold rolling preferred for power screw threads?

For threading of Power screws ( like in a car jack with square/trapizoidal threading ), why is cold rolling preferred to normal material removal machining ; say turning on lathe.
Or is cold rolling even preffered?

I believe that on large scale manufacturing its a lot qiuker and cheaper then turning on a lathe.
