Why Is Gravity Infinite at a Black Hole's Center but Zero at Earth's Center?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

Gravity is zero at the center of Earth due to the equal distribution of mass surrounding the center, resulting in gravitational forces canceling each other out. In contrast, at the center of a black hole, gravity is predicted to be infinite due to the singularity, where density becomes infinitely large and the laws of physics as we know them break down. The fundamental difference lies in the nature of mass distribution and the effects of general relativity in extreme conditions, as outlined in the equations governing black holes.

PREREQUISITES
  • General relativity principles
  • Understanding of gravitational forces
  • Concept of singularities in astrophysics
  • Basic knowledge of black hole physics
NEXT STEPS
  • Explore the implications of singularities in black hole physics
  • Study the equations of general relativity
  • Investigate the concept of event horizons
  • Learn about gravitational waves and their relation to black holes
USEFUL FOR

Astronomers, physicists, students of astrophysics, and anyone interested in the fundamental nature of gravity and black holes.

Gravity is zero at the center of the earth. how come the same set of equations predict the gravity to be infinity at the center of a black hole? where does the singularity really come into picture? how is a black holes center different from Earth's center?
