why unequal fringe width in Michelson interference pattern?
The discussion revolves around the phenomenon of unequal fringe width in the Michelson interference pattern, exploring potential causes and underlying principles. Participants examine theoretical aspects, equipment imperfections, and the mathematical formulation related to fringe width.
Participants do not appear to reach a consensus, as there are competing views regarding the causes of unequal fringe width, with some attributing it to equipment imperfections and others referencing theoretical formulations.
The discussion highlights a lack of clarity in textbooks regarding the explanation of fringe width and its dependence on various factors, including the order of the fringe and the angle involved.
Well then I clearly did not understand you. You will have to provide more information about what you are talking about.sree. said:Dear Simon,
I don't think it is due to apparatus imperfection. There is a formula for fringe width which is given by β=λ/2nθ, where n is the order of the fringe. but none of the textbook has given the explanation for this.
