Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the impact of transfer credits on job prospects for graduates in Electrical Engineering (EE). Participants explore how employers evaluate course loads and the implications of having many transfer credits on the perceived rigor of an academic program.

Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested
  • Conceptual clarification

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses concern that having many transfer credits may prevent them from creating a challenging semester, potentially affecting their job prospects in engineering.
  • Another participant references a previous thread that may contain relevant insights on the topic, suggesting that there are existing discussions on employer expectations regarding course loads.
  • Additional posts indicate that there may have been confusion regarding previous discussions, but do not contribute new information about the main topic.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on whether transfer credits will negatively impact job prospects, and the discussion remains unresolved regarding the importance of course load in hiring decisions.

Contextual Notes

There is a lack of specific evidence or consensus on how employers view transfer credits versus course rigor, and the discussion does not clarify the criteria used by employers in evaluating candidates.

I'm enrolled at a small public college in an EE program. How intently do employers look at the course load you took in college? The problem is, I had so many transfer credits from my first trip through college, I'm not really able to create a challenging semester from the classes that I have available without taking a lot of extra classes that I don't need for my degree. Is this likely to hurt me when I go looking for that first engineering job?

BTW, I tried posting this before, but I think it got lost when the site went partially down  .
