XRD of spinel and inverse spinel structure

Click For Summary
X-ray diffraction (XRD) can be used to differentiate between spinel and inverse spinel structures in materials. To identify these structures, one must analyze the diffraction patterns, focusing on peak positions and intensities. Specific characteristics in the patterns can indicate the presence of either structure. However, the discussion emphasizes the importance of conducting preliminary research before seeking community assistance. Understanding the basic principles and potential methods for analysis can lead to more informed questions and better responses from experts.

Hi everyone,

I have a question. Can we use XRD to tell if a material has a spinel or inverse structure? If yes, how should we identify it. If not, what are the ways to differentate spinel and inverse spinel structure. I a newbie in XRD analysis. Please kindly advise. Thanks.

Andrew, it doesn't appear that you've done any significant amount of research on your own yet, so don't expect the community to be eager to just jump out and pop all of life's mysteries for you. Define the things you have found on your own and some of the pro's and cons of the avenues that you see as having the potential to reach discovery on your own; then you'd have a better chance of seeking informed replies. Good luck to you.

I need to anneal 5052 aluminum for a home project. Google has given me mixed results on how to do this. Short version is that I'm doing some heavy forming on a piece of 5052-H32 and I'm running into issues with it work hardening. I've tried the Sharpie trick with a propane torch. But I'm not sure this is doing anything. I'm also seeing conflicting opinions whether to quench or air cool. So I'm looking for some expert opinions. (Oven heating is not an option due to size.) Thanks. edit: The...
