what are gravity waves? i am guessing that they are some kind of oscillations in the space-time "medium"?
but gravity waves are not the normal carrier of the gravitational force? otherwise, because its an oscillation, the force wouldn't fall off with the square of the distance. so what...
thank you guys...
the density seems a simple satisfying explanation for the brazil nuts and for the ping pong ball...but is the steel ball lighter than the same volume of sand? the shells lighter than the soil? now i am going crazy...i will try googling on granular physics, thank you...
why do the big brazil nuts always end up at the top of the bag? or when you put a rubber ball at the bottom of a bowl of rice and shake the bowl from side to side why does the rubber ball always come to the top? what is the explanation? I'm going crazy!
when I'm stirring sugar into my coffee, the tone of the stirring sound gets higher and higher pitched...if you pay attention, it takes a while and it raises a lot but eventually it seems to hit a ceiling...what's going on exactly? I'm guessing that the sugar dissolving is raising the pitch...
but that it is simply not the case...keep in mind that card counting does work with multiple decks...i'm not concerned with whether or not the jack of diamonds can no longer be played, I'm simply concerned with how many high cards have been dealt compared with low cards...availability is...
...or a program that will let me input the equations to look at graphics of fractals and stuff, that would be nice actually...does anyone know how to do that?
thank you
is there a way to 'beat' a random card generator in blackjack with card counting?
a very simple card counting system works by counting high cards against low ones, if i have a count of +9 (high cards likely) with 3 decks left in the shoe i divide by # of decks left and get a +3 'true...
ohohohoho! you're right! this is a corrupt analogy, thank you for the replies anyway...i'll have to try and think of another way to address this topic...
if I'm counting cards in blackjack and at some point work out that the probability of the next card being dealt being a 10 or higher is 2/1, and the dealer suddenly reshuffles the deck, that probability evaporates (ask any card counter)...but why? what is going on here? reshuffling the deck...
forgive me for not understanding how muscles work exactly but i think janus was suggesting that your muscle strength depends on the 2-dimensional area or the cross-section of your muscles, probably with muscles it has to do with tension more than volume, per se, but i myself do not know exactly...
yes! scaling! thank you guys, that is exactly the answer i needed there, of course...if there is an earthly standard of muscle mass to volume ratio, as in a standard beyond which body control becomes more and more difficult due to gravity considerations et al. then this kind of scaling of the...
yeah, a fifty foot guy would be a lot faster than anyone else, i'll grant you that, i just don't think he'd be that much faster, probably slower than a tyrannosaur, for example...
and yes, gravity pulls on him harder and he also has more inertia which would make him especially unwieldy...
not the best example, but why does an elephant lumber around at such a ponderous pace and little ants seem to zip around at 3 or 4 times human speed? is it air resistance? gravity to muscle mass ratio? if we enlarged a 6 foot human being to 50 feet, would he walk around in slow motion? if we...
PRyckman, this is a really interesting idea, don't be deterred by people who demand that you flesh out every conceivable equation before you pursue a qualitative idea...
sometimes the mentors ask pertinent questions and demand relevant equations, other times they spend three pages trying to...
thank you guys, modified Newtonian dynamics link http://www.astro.umd.edu/~ssm/mond/
an interesting question alright...i don't know if it makes sense to to expect one thing or the other - why shouldn't most of all forms of matter be able to radiate in some form? it's a philosophical point...
