If "spent" rods still give off heat and can cause a meltdown why are they non usable for energy production? I would assume its just not cost effective after a certain time. But if there is still energy there why can't you still use it to produce some energy? Im sorry if this question is so...

Thanks for that info. Living in the area we saw all the stories on the news. Good to know they were just blown way out of proportion. Now if only the rest of the population were smart enough to see through the media's scare tactics.
