That is some very useful input, marcusl. I will try some of the models that you suggested and compare the results to the ones that I have for the dipole. I will try to post an update after I've done this.
@marcusl, yes, I have taken E&M and vector calculus.
I'm running a simulation for a researcher who has actually built a device which involves passing neodymium magnets through coils to produce electricity.
It seems silly, but I'm really just trying to figure out the magnetic field produced by...
I am trying to approximate the field of a permanent neodymium magnet as that of a magnet dipole. The magnet in link the below can be modeled by a magnetic dipole of what strength?

Homework Statement
What is the force acting on a magnetic dipole that falls through a loop of wire?
Any sort of answer, exact, approximate or a reference to a source that covers this would be excellent. I haven't been able to find much of anything on this problem.

The week before most of the acceptance letters are sent out is generally pretty worrisome. It gets better, though. The first week of April is much more fun, because you have definite offers and get to decide which school that you like best.
Best of luck!
I'm going to provide a bit of a dissenting opinion here. You should be able to develop good enough programming skills in the Engineering Computations class to complete your coursework. Physics classes don't really involve any difficult programming.
That being said, programming is a very...
If you're not sure what the physics major is like, it would probably be good to arrange a meeting with a physics professor and/or an upperclassman physics major. They will be able to answer a lot of your questions and give you a feel for the physics major at your school.
I come from a program where getting a PhD is pretty much the default. The undergrad program is fairly similar to what a PhD program would be like, with exposure to a lot of challenging and time consuming coursework and exposure to a lot of academic culture.
In the end, it seems like a PhD is...
With graduate school applications due soon, I'm looking for some advice on where to apply and what to do after I graduate. I have a strong academic background with a high GPA from a good school. I am a bit light on research and work experience, but my professors seem to think that this won't...
