Firmi-Dirac Stats. - Calculate number of microstates.

figured it out, was missing a very relevant equation. w_{\text{FD}}\left(N_1,N_2,\text{...}N_n\right)=∏ \frac{g_j!}{N_j!\left(g_j-N_j\right)!}...

Firmi-Dirac Stats. - Calculate number of microstates.

    Homework Statement Determine the number of microstates where two particles have have energy 2eV, three have 3eV, three have energy 4eV, and two have 5eV. 10 indistinguishable Particles 1 particle allowed per state. ε1 = 1eV ε2 = 2eV ε3 = 3eV ε4 = 4eV ε5 = 5eV ε6 = 6eV g1...

Minimum Minimum Power of a Heat Engine to freeze 50kg water in one hour

Finally got it, I was completely over thinking the entire process! Thanks for the help!

    Thermodynamics - Ideal Gas Model

Do you know what kind of gas it is? The relationships of P,V,T,etc. for adiabatic processes are typically dependent on the number of degrees of freedom the gas has. If not, then there should be a way to derive it using only the ideal gas law. Here are some relationships that may help you out...

Calculating Efficiency of an Ottos Cycle: I Need Help!

If \eta=.2 then the system is 20% efficient, that is, if you put some energy into the system, only 20% of that energy is converted into work, and the other 80 percent is lost as heat.

Minimum Minimum Power of a Heat Engine to freeze 50kg water in one hour

I'm still stuck, what would TH be? Shouldn't it be the temperature of the output reservoir, which isn't specified by the problem, and I don't think enough is known to use the second version of the equation either... Also, as for the temperatures, I hadn't bothered converting them to Kelvin...

Minimum Minimum Power of a Heat Engine to freeze 50kg water in one hour

Homework Statement Fifty kg of water at 0oC must be frozen into ice in a refrigerator. The room temperature is 20oC. The latent heat of fusion of water is 3.33x105 J kg-1. What is the minimum power required if the freezing is to take place in one hour? m = 50 kg Lf = 3.33x105 J kg-1...

Solve this 3rd Order Differential Equation

Homework Statement d^3x/dt^3 - d^2x/dt^2 = 3e^t - sin(t) Homework Equations not sure. maybe sin(t)=.5*i*e^(-i*t)-.5*i*e^(i*t) The Attempt at a Solution I'm pretty sure we start by finding the complementary solution by setting the right side equal to 0. So we have: D^3 x - D^2...
