Well anything heated to a very high temp is going to glow. My room is lit up by a tungsten filament glowing at about 2800 C. Is there anything special about CaO?. Can you use BaO , SrO, or a blob of anything that doesn't melt?
I saw on TV this morning how Thomas Drummond in 1829 created an intense light for use in a lighthouse in 1829, before electric lights. He heated calcium oxide with alcohol and oxygen to a very high temperature creating what is called limelight, later used in theatrical productions in the 19th...
I still do not see how it is possible. If I were to send "I will meet the spy at the train station on Tuesday morning" it would be impossible. It Is such a short message I don't see how to decipher. By the way I am not using Moby Dick as my key; I am using "Antwort uber Balthasar Hubmaiers...
I heard this method of creating a code described in a movie a long time ago.
Two people want to send encoded messages to each other by mail(or now email). To encode their messages they both buy the same novel , let's say Moby Dick.
To write the message they use a system where a triple set of...
Marcus I am confused. I think I understand that in the year 373,000 light was emited from 41 million LY away that we now know as Cosmic Background Radiation. Are you saying that there was matter much farther out than 41 million LY when CMB was emitted that is now 62 billion Ly away NOW.
In Dr. Tyson's first episode of Cosmos he said "...there are parts of the Universe that are too far away. There hasn't been enough time in 13.8 billion year history of the Universe for their light to have reached us."
Since the remnants of the Big Bang has a redshift over 1000 and large...
Maybe it would be easier to understand if we say the measurement of the speed of light is the same rather than just the speed of light. Measurement implies use of clocks and measuring rods(distance). Now if moving clocks and rods vary, we can measure a constant speed of light.
On a recent Car Talk Show there recently was a puzzle from the "Hat in the River" series. The hosts of the show emphasized that the puzzle should be solved by thinking and not by using algebra which may confuse things.
So instead of thinking I tried to use algebra to try to solve the puzzle...
