Is Being Gay Genetic? Unbiased Answers & Studies | PhysicsForums

wow...again, I'm making things more complex. Concerning homosexuality: I say it's a merely psycological attribute you decide for yourself, not your genes. ("Homosexuality has been observed in over 450 species, homophobia in only one.") So, back to tahayassen's questions: (if anyone would...

Infra red and ultra violet vision

Obvious, I tend to make things appear more complex than they are to me (bit of a problem for me). So I presume snakes might not see the heat, they sense it just very much better than we do. gah, I'm being too anthropocentric... Thanks anyways.

Is Being Gay Genetic? Unbiased Answers & Studies | PhysicsForums

Hmmm...just wondering: Let's assume there WAS a gay gene, how can someone be born with it while he/she was procreated by a non-homosexual man and a non-homosexual woman (in most cases)?

Medical Math & Dyslexia: Coping Strategies for Learners

I don't have dyslexia, yet i know that it is close to what is called dyscalculia (dys = somewhat close to disability + calculia = calculate). Some dyslexic people are pretty good at math as it is a less complex system than letters forming words forming sentences with a certain grammar. math also...

Medical The Effects of Alcohol and Anesthesia on Consciousness and Memory

the black out comes from an intoxication of alcohol which intensively reduces the memory power, so what we forget was most likely never saved in your memory.

Medical Mangan, iron, silver, copper and other metal in blood?

I was recently asked why the iron in our blood wasn't killing us while iron is poisonous to the body; and what would be if it was other metals than iron in our blood, what would happen?

Is Being Gay Genetic? Unbiased Answers & Studies | PhysicsForums

To be honest, your question made me doubt my knowledge about this topic. AFAIK genes never determinate an attribute of a organism, their "data" just facilitate or inhibit a certain physical abilty of the organism (via biochemic factors), but being homosexual is something psycological.

Infra red and ultra violet vision

I heard that snakes can see infra red waves and e.g. bees can see ultra violet light. so... infra red = heat = snakes have heat vision? and do bees see ultra violet as a color? if yes, does it mix with other colors or is it like a filter?

    Living Organism versus Electricity

That I know. I've read multiple questions and answers about this topic and of them end like: "high-voltage is dangerous, yes; but it also depends on the amperage (the higher the amperage the server the consequences at lower voltage)". ...what about the hamster-in-microwave experiment?

Can we bring back extinct species through cloning?

Gah. why is it so difficult to recover DNA? Does it need to be taken from particular cells? Or is it because of possible errors in the DNA (errors because it was not being "repaired" by the organism)?

Why doesn't sugar grow mold in dry form?

The same is it with salt, but salt is even more hostile to life. In general, dry food is very unlikely to grow mold because it's lacking one VERY important thing: Water.

Can we bring back extinct species through cloning?

I've once read an article about a team of scientists who were about to (or wanted to) clone a mammoth with the aid of using elephants. I have two questions on this topic: 1. Is that possible? (I assume they're using a recovered mammoth genome and in vitro fertilization) 2. If it's possible...

    Living Organism versus Electricity

I was wondering for quite a while what would happen if you exposed a living organism to electricity of ~250.000 Ampère at 1.000.000 Volts (I'm unsure if the values given are insanely high or not). Would the organism just end up "everywhere" or something else??
