Lab view programming to drive motor

Ok, I'm still lost on what exactly the problem is. It sounds like you can move the motor with the program but when you have all the stuff in there with the light sensor, nothing is happening. This is how I would propose to troubleshoot the whole thing. Go through these steps and tell me where...

What is your degree, and what do you do?

BS Mechanical Engineering First worked at Lockheed Martin doing material testing. Mostly it was paperwork and making pretty presentations. I could have done that job with the knowledge I gained in high school. Then worked for a manufacturing plant that reverse engineered parts for ion...

Is it easier to fail in High School then in College?

That was my problem. Combined with attendance issues. My high school was a campus in the boonies. Skipping class meant sitting in the hallway or something. So I sat through class and soaked everything in. College? Eh, maybe I just won't get out of bed this morning...and missing things in...

Courses General Relativity- an undergrad or grad course

As a mechanical engineering undergrad, I took a course called "Modern Physics for Engineers" (required, not an elective). About a third of the class was GR. Don't ask me why MEs were required to take it, but I ate it up. I don't think there would be a problem waiting until grad school for a...

Alternatives to Labview? Python, Pylab-works, Reviews

I have to disagree with # 1 and 2. Both those things are possible. I took over an experiment that used labVIEW about 5 yrs ago. I had used it in college and hated it. But I was forced to use it or rewrite the whole thing (trust me, the thought crossed my mind...). They've made great...

Lab view programming to drive motor

Have you been successful in making the servo motor move at all? How is it connected to the computer? I don't recognize the LabVIEW functions in your code. The only way I've used servo motors has been with an NI Motion Control card.

Can Objects Have Negative Mass and Defy the Speed of Light?

It's like a double negative...my words weren't very clear in the above (I shouldn't have said the negative mass was attracted, rather that it moved toward the positive mass). Let's say you have a positive mass that produces a gravitational field. Then you drop in a negative test mass. The...

Can Objects Have Negative Mass and Defy the Speed of Light?

Ah, you guys mustn't be up-to-date on your Robert Forward reading! GR doesn't care if mass is positive or negative to be mathematically consistent. Negative mass does, however, violate energy conditions as I think Acut pointed out. But these principles aren't necessary for GR. So it has...

When you can't use conservation of energy

Where you draw your 'box' is also important. Energy is conserved in a closed system. But if you let energy cross the boundary of your box (your system), then you can't rely on those equations anymore.

How Do Researchers Publish Their Findings?

Sorry, shouldn't have referred to it as a 'journal', I just meant it was a resource for papers. But they do have standards. I know some folks that have been rejected from it.

Lab view programming to drive motor

I guess I'm a bit confused on what you want help with. You have written code to read the voltage from the sensor and you have written code to make the servo run, correct? You just want to know how to write a conditional statement to make the servo only run when the voltage is zero (i.e. when...

What is the relationship between electron flow and the speed of light in a wire?

I agree - random motion with an average drift rate down the wire. Also, the skin effect only occurs with AC and there would be no net movement of electrons. They essentially slosh back and forth as the current changes direction.

How Do Researchers Publish Their Findings?

This is right up my alley as much of what we do is "out there" for mainstream science. Some of the more prestigious journals would just outright reject a paper even if your evidence was extraordinary. But other journals are more open to "alternative views" and might find the paper acceptable...

How Do Researchers Publish Their Findings?

Firstly, start with a bit of a google search to give yourself some background. Read the wikipedia article on Scientific Journals. Journals publish 'articles' written by the original researcher(s) and then peer reviewed for quality. The article will contain an 'abstract', which is like an...

    Dark matter vs. modified gravity?

I just replied to another thread about this! There are certainly still proponents of modified gravity. Milgrom, Benkenstein and Moffat are still generating papers and there are quite a number of new adherents to the ideas (McGaugh, Scarpa, etc). That doesn't mean that "consensus" is pointing...
