What is so 'counter-intuitive' about the double-slit experiment?

One photon produces a point on the screen. Many photons produce an interference pattern, whether the photons all arrive at the screen at once, or whether they are fired at the screen one by one. What is so 'counter-intuitive' about that? When we know that the electron shell that produces...

Can You Divide a Circle into 360 Equal Sections Without Special Instruments?

Well, by 'ruler', I meant a marked straight edge. edit:- And by 'Euclidean', I meant basic high school geometry. This little experiment came to me the other night after reading of base 12 and base 60 number systems and I wondered exactly how the ancients might have divided a circle into 360'...

Can You Divide a Circle into 360 Equal Sections Without Special Instruments?

Would it not be constructible by Alephzero's method, above?

Can You Divide a Circle into 360 Equal Sections Without Special Instruments?

Thanks Aleph and 256! With my layman's understanding, I was using right-angles as my starting point and was never going to get from there to the 4' arc that is essential to finishing the job. Does this mean that a 360-gon is actually constructable then?

Can You Divide a Circle into 360 Equal Sections Without Special Instruments?

How was it done in antiquity? Or even comparatively recently?

Can You Divide a Circle into 360 Equal Sections Without Special Instruments?

Hi forum, Here is a little challenge that I came up with that some of you may find interesting:- Using only a compass, ruler and pencil, can you draw a circle, of any diameter you wish, and divide its circumference exactly into 360 equal sections? It seems to me that one should be able to...

Is 1 Equal to Infinity? A Discussion

Maybe I've bitten off more than I can chew here :) 1 is infinitely divisible. It seems to me that in order to work with infinity in math, you should just call it 1.

Is 1 Equal to Infinity? A Discussion

You don't have to if you don't want to. I'm not your papa. It's an interesting concept to me. Maybe others would like to share their thoughts?

Is Wave-Particle Duality Really Real? An Analysis of the Double Slit Experiment

Thanks, I had a strong 'vision' of what's going on with duality the night before last, hence the questions. I've no doubt that this vision is flawed due to incomplete understanding of the processes so I'll keep my mouth shut for fear of ridicule but will ask another question:- Is the energy...

Is Wave-Particle Duality Really Real? An Analysis of the Double Slit Experiment

Thanks again to everyone, this thread has really helped my understanding. I have some more questions, I hope you don't mind! :- If I conduct the double slit experiment by firing one photon at a time, do I find that every now and again, a photon is 'blocked' by the dark part of the slitted...

Is Wave-Particle Duality Really Real? An Analysis of the Double Slit Experiment

Hmmm, is it right to say then that we observe individual photons as particles and we find wave properties only when we measure the properties of many photons emanating from the same source. To me, this clears up the 'mystery' of duality completely
