Can String Theory Accurately Predict Quantum and Relativistic Phenomena?

Of course there are predictions, in fact infinitely many. I just came out of a talk where detailed computations and predictions, down to the level of cross sections, were presented. This is work by Lust, Stieberger and Taylor to appear next week or so. What they do is to compute tree-level...

Can String Theory Accurately Predict Quantum and Relativistic Phenomena?

No. String theory is indeed very finely structured and does not allow any deformation against its build-in structure. Do you really claim that scattering amplitudes are arbitrary and not determined once the ground state is given?

Can String Theory Accurately Predict Quantum and Relativistic Phenomena?

ST is based on quantum mechanics, and thus is in accordance with it. It also reproduces GTR in the low energy limit. These facts have been the main motivation for studying it and can be read in any textbook. For LQG nothing comparable can be said, as far as I know. As for predictions, ST is...

Spires 2007 topcite list is posted

Well one cannot make it right for you guys. When most people work on a single or few subjects, the papers get high numbers of citations and you complain about fashion driven physics. When people work on a large diversity of subjects, such as it is now, then you see a decline in their field...

An Exceptionally Technical Discussion of AESToE

Garret, OK so let me translate this in my language.. your superconnection does not take values in the Lie algebra of E8 as some generators are fermionic (they square to zero, eg). Therefore the curvature, or field strength does not take values in all of E8, but in D4+D4 only. The full...

An Exceptionally Technical Discussion of AESToE

Oh yes, this is of course very well known since ages. But those tensor and spinor rep generators are all bosonic, and close into the usual E8 commutator relations. My point is, apparently still not appreciated, that if some of the generators are made fermionic (as it happens for superalgebras)...

An Exceptionally Technical Discussion of AESToE

Please! To my knowledge the only algebras that contain both bosonic and fermionic generators are superalgebras, and E8 is not one of them. How can the commutation relations close into E8?

An Exceptionally Technical Discussion of AESToE

If your connection would be valued in the algebra, its would be expandable in the generators of E8. But some components of your connection are fermionic and thus anticommute, or? How can these possibly satisfy any E8 commutation relations? And if not, what on Earth has your construction then...
