Planar wave normally incident on dielectric boundary

Note that the permitivity can me complex, but only the real part has been given. Remember that \eta is described interms of: \eta = \sqrt{\frac{\mu_0}{\textbf{ε}}}, where \epsilon is actually the complex permitivity. There is plenty potential to use \frac{\sigma}{\omega * \epsilon_{0}} << 1...

    Schools Help choosing undergrad school?

All Of the schools I listed are very good schools for physics. Being in a top tier school helps with grad school, but it's not the only factor. Make sure that the school you go to has undergrad research opportunities (u of m, cmu and stony brook all have this)

    Schools Help choosing undergrad school?

I would look at University of Michigan, SUNY Stony Brook (a public university, but very much racing to the forefront in physics and sciences in general), Carnegie Mellon (likely a stretch, but worth a shot). If you are willing to go to Canada you have a shot at University of Toronto and McGill...

Physics Physics master program at Stony Brooks.

Stony Brook is a good school, with a good reputation. However, it is not very prestigious. The coursework is rigorous and there is a LOT of research, but the prestige of the school is far below were it should be (it is quite an amazing school actually).

Programs Majoring in a field that can't be outsourced

Everything can be outsourced... This is a sad fact of life in what is becoming a global economy and job market. I say go for your passion, because that is what will best serve you in the future.

Schools Making a College Decision: RPI vs. Stony Brook

Hello, I got my acceptance letters back from most of the schools I applied to and most of my financial aid packages. I want to go for engineering (I haven't decided exact discipline, but I was accepted to Electrical Engineering, because that is what my interest was listed as) So far I can...

What are the main thing I have to take in high school to be a

You can take anything, but if you want to get into the most prestigious engineering schools make sure you take AP Physics if it is offered (or IB Physics HL), a lot of college also like to see a year of Chemistry (preferably AP Chem if you can). I would also make sure you take Biology, because...

Other Becoming an Engineer: Considerations and Personal Experiences

Music theory is not difficult at all. If you like music take an introductory class in Music theory you will enjoy it, but this is not a course of study I would follow full time. Maybe it is best if you experiment with bio, there is plenty of bio research going on right now. It is not a staid...

True... I am just being optimistic ;)

Schools Michigan Schools: Physics Major, 2.7 GPA, 25 ACT

All of the Michigan Schools are pretty solid in there own right. I wouldn't be ashamed to go to any of them. I hear Michigan Tech is really good, but its also really cold :P.

Physics vs Engineering (Research vs Engineering)

This is what I have been doing. For example, at University of Michigan I am applying for Physics because it is easier to get into (for me) than the College of Engineering. However, when applying to a lot of schools you can just apply to the College of Engineering and if you don't get in there...

Physics vs Engineering (Research vs Engineering)

I am applying to college this year (really soon). Almost all the colleges I am applying to have stellar Physics and Engineering departments (as well as math and sciences in general). However, on my application I have to choose a college to apply to. It comes down to Engineering and Science and...

Schools Michigan Schools: Physics Major, 2.7 GPA, 25 ACT

My girlfriends family lives in Michigan. I can probably get more info on the Northern, Central, Eastern, etc situation if you want me to.

Schools Non-ivy league schools for math, physics?

Also, look for research. Undergrad research will help you get into grad school.
