Can we interchange the Dirac Matrices?

Sorry, in the Latex text, the last term should have 1/c not 1/2.

Can we interchange the Dirac Matrices?

Ok, first off I will admit that I really am pretty much ignorant of proper QM, as I am a first year undergraduate at a UK university. Today our lecturer, in the final lecture of a Vibrations and Waves course, demonstrated how the Schrodinger equation is derived from applying the Energy and...

Programs PHD in Theoretical particle physics/cosmology

To be honest I can't really help you, but, just out of curiosity what unis are you and your friends at, because I have offers from a few UK unis for physics next year and I was wondering what others are thinking about them.. i.e. to help me choose and so on.

Book on multivariable calculus/vector calculus, (cheap-ish)

Right, high school student here, I may want a book on multivariable/vector calculus soon and I was wondering if you have any suggestions.. I like the look of https://www.amazon.com/dp/0130414085/?tag=pfamazon01-20 but regrettably it seems to expensive for me.. Bear in mind that I live in...

Testing Preparing for Ireland's A-Levels & SAT Equivalents: Tips & Sample Papers

Fellow Irish person here, doing the Leaving next year,, I've heard that it's relatively easy (per subject) compared to other systems, however I think the sheer number of subjects balances it up.. But I'm unsatisfied with the depth of Higher Level Maths and Physics to be honest..Edit. Oh and good...

Hmmm, books for a curious high school (almost) senior?

Yeah, sounds like solid enough advice, it may be worth picking up a copy a little later in life :). Although I must say one thing about the library issue, any books I get will have to be bought online for a number of reasons. I live in a rural, remote area and the nearest university and decent...

Hmmm, books for a curious high school (almost) senior?

Thanks for that :), however, may Road to Reality be a little hard for a (good) high school student, as from the descriptions and reviews I've read it seems to be highly advanced mathematically and according to many reviewers requires a strong background in physics/maths, or is this nonsense?

Hmmm, books for a curious high school (almost) senior?

Thanks for you very helpful advice. The reason I included the Euclid was more out of purely intellectual curiosity as I've long found geometry fascinating, not because of any perceived utility. The main reason I included the Spivak was that I'm rather uncomfortable with how calculus was...

I'm thinking Spivak for the calculus?

Hmmm, books for a curious high school (almost) senior?

Good evening, I am in high school (well we would have called it secondary school but I'm assuming most of you are Americans) in Ireland, I will be a senior (Americanism again.. :p) next year (i.e. finishing in 2011) and I have a keen interest in science (particularly physics) and mathematics...

Max Planck Institute (Heidelberg) Reputation for PhDs in Physics

According to ARWU, the top European Universities in Physics are: 1. University of Cambridge 2. Imperial College London 3. Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich 4. Université de Paris Sud 5. University of Munich Although really that is based on research output so it may have nothing to...

Testing Preparing for Cambridge STEP: Advice for Irish Students

I'm probably going to apply to Mathematics, or maybe Mathematics and Physics, in Cambridge this October. I'm not asking for your opinions on Cambridge or the course or anything, I just have to ask this. I am an Irish Secondary school student, and I am worried about the STEP exam required...

    Question about Cambridge and whatnot

Thanks for that, actually over the last few days I have been reconsidering the Oxford physics program, and it may actually be more suited to me. It seems like good advice as I've thought for a while that there is no ideal course for me in Cambridge, and now that I look at it again the Oxford...
