    Simple Harmonic Motion Average Velocity

I didn't have that part - I only noted it down from a lesson and was working off of that. Sorry. @Fightfish Thanks for the clarification

    Simple Harmonic Motion Average Velocity

I suppose it's probably a book error then (with 1500 problems you expect there to be a few, it is irodov's problem book (for reference)) - I doubt we have both forgotten something important, especially with such a simple problem. Thanks.

    Simple Harmonic Motion Average Velocity

Sorry, I mistyped - it is now fixed. 2aω/π I also fixed another ambiguity in my typing - I hope it is now all unambiguous.

    Simple Harmonic Motion Average Velocity

The problem statement is complete in the sense that the book says no more. I took velocity vector projection and thought the same but I believe, based on previous questions, it is referring to the magnitude.

    Simple Harmonic Motion Average Velocity

Homework Statement At time t = 0, a point starts oscillating on the x - axis according to the law x = a sin(ωt). Find the average velocity vector projection (I assume it means magnitude based on previous questions in the book). Homework Equations The Attempt at a Solution I knew that the...

Prerequisites for Spivaks Calculus/Diff Geo, etc.

I have recommended this in another thread but I'll do it again. It is highly enjoyable and should anyone to an acceptable level to tackle Spivak - it will be a challenge though (thats the fun part :-p).

What are the best European countries for those who prefer warm weather?

Compared to what though? I don't think there is a massive issue and I imagine it's about the same as the USA. I think most trains aren't great unless you're in Japan. All in all, I don't think they are particularly bad or any worse than most places. Disclaimer: I could of course be...

What are the best European countries for those who prefer warm weather?

To a lot of people, it is better somewhere else. Here in the UK, people think the USA is awesome and so on. However, as much as it may not be true, moving somewhere away may make said person happier not because the country is better but because it is different. I think saying you want to move to...

Any recommendations for a good self-study book on Galois groups?

I haven't studied galois at all but I was browsing the cambridge books they use and this stood out for some reason. It may or may not be useful but I didn't see the harm in mentioning it. These are the books that are deemed appropriate for the Cambridge Maths tripos Galois Theory Course(third...

K&K First Chapter - Is it necessary?

Ok, great. Thanks. I have gone onto the next chapter since I started the thread just to get an idea as to what it was like and it seems to be written in a clear way. I will give it a go.

K&K First Chapter - Is it necessary?

I have been reading the first chapter of K&K which is one the mathematical preliminaries supposedly and it includes lots of examples of applications of vectors/kinematics and so forth. I am about 2/3 of the way throughout it (into plane polar coordinates) and it seems as though it is just...

Attempting to learn a little bit of Quantum physics at 17

No, it's in OCR-MEI not OCR. It's awkward to find a link right now because I am on my phone but there is a spec somewhere. Thanks.

Attempting to learn a little bit of Quantum physics at 17

I have to do OCR-MEI next year. I believe there is some Differential Geometry in FP3 - that would be a lot of fun.

Attempting to learn a little bit of Quantum physics at 17

I guess you're not doing Edexcel then? There are DE's in there. They're in C4 as well but in a greater extent with other methods such as substitution to solve them. Yeah, that makes sense. Otherwise, nobody would be prepared for work in physics at another university... hahaha

Attempting to learn a little bit of Quantum physics at 17

Yeah, I find it odd sometimes on PF because they use all of these great books like Kleppner and Kolenkow or Goldstein etc. at top universities and I never see them on UK uni websites. I may be completely wrong but it seems like it. It may be the same in America of course. For example, Kibble and...
