How can I calculate the displacement thickness of a turbulent boundary layer?

Great, Thank you! I'll check with the campus library if they have them.

How can I calculate the displacement thickness of a turbulent boundary layer?

I appreciate the help! I'v realized the problems involved in predicting transition from what I'v read. And no it's not a flat plate. This particular equation can be found in Aerodynamics for Engineering Students. The book say the method was devised by Smith and H.Gamberoni at Douglas Aircrat...

How can I calculate the displacement thickness of a turbulent boundary layer?

I'm planning to use a semi empirical formula that puts Rex in relation to the shape factor. I't rather long so I won't write out all of it but it looks simple enough to use. LHS is log(Rex) and RHS depends on the shapefactor alone. When LHS=RHS transition is predicted to occur.

How can I calculate the displacement thickness of a turbulent boundary layer?

Lets go straight to the point. I need to find a way to calculate the displacement thickness of a turbulent boyndary layer. The laminar part has been simulated with Thwaite's method but I need to go from there. I'v heard of "Head's-model" but can't find the solution for it. Anyone that can...

Medical How can I manage a career with eye floaters?

Vitrectomy is a option but you should be aware of the possible complications. The most common is probably lens opacification. Other more rare complications are retinal tears and bleeding. Symptoms you should pay extra attention are "flashes of light" and a experience that's described as a...

    2D-panelmethod, extend to lifting bodies?

Thanks! I did try with more panels and it does improve the results to some extent (small improvement). However there's still problems close to the trailing edge. Because the rest of the Cp(x) plot look quite nice I suspect the errors are mainly due to incorrect input data (panels) at the...

    2D-panelmethod, extend to lifting bodies?

Correct, I'm plotting 1-Cp so it's basicly the same as (V/Vinf)^2. I suspect the difference in Cl is mainly because of the trailing edge panels. by changing them to a more appropiate configuration (similar length) the Cl dropped to 1.4. still not the same as X-foil but if it can change with 0.2...

    2D-panelmethod, extend to lifting bodies?

That helps a bunch. Thank you so much! The program is up and running how's this for a NACA4412 airfoil @ 8deg? Looks quite right imo, still a little funky at the trailing edge though. I just used midpoint aproximation to calculate the lift, not sure how accurate that is. Now I just...

    2D-panelmethod, extend to lifting bodies?

I guess it's because I enjoy the process. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

    2D-panelmethod, extend to lifting bodies?

I'm working on a basic 2D-"panelmethod" program. Currently it's "no-lift" but I would like to expand it to lifting bodies. The routines I'm using are loaned from my litterature and the program is working just fine for non-lifting bodies. It uses sources distributed over the panels to...
