What is Jets: Definition and 86 Discussions

The Winnipeg Jets are a professional ice hockey team based in Winnipeg. They compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the North Division. The team is owned by True North Sports & Entertainment and plays its home games at Canada Life Centre.
The Jets were established as the Atlanta Thrashers on June 25, 1997, and became the League's 28th franchise when they began play in the 1999–2000 NHL season. True North Sports & Entertainment then bought the team in May 2011 and relocated the franchise from Atlanta to Winnipeg prior to the 2011–12 season (the first NHL franchise to relocate since the Hartford Whalers became the Carolina Hurricanes in 1997). The team was renamed the Jets after Winnipeg's original WHA/NHL team, which relocated after the 1995–96 season to become the Phoenix Coyotes.

Black Holes emitting jets of gas?

While watching the Discover Channel, they mentioned a jet of gas emitting from a black hole . . . . yet they say they are so powerful that not even light can escape them. So if not even light can escape the gravity, how would "jets of gas"? As a side note, . . . I realize that most of...

Energy difference between accelerated particles and Jets

Hi, In the LHC particles are speed up to 7 TeV, smashing protons into "jets". I asked someone if these jets could also smash up surrounding protons and his answer was no because jets have far less energy. But he couldn't tell the energy difference, so my question is how much energy do these...

Creating a "Black" Smoke Trail with Model Jets

I fly model jets that utilize miniature gas turbine engines. If one wishes to introduce a smoke system, A smoke oil tank is installed on board, The smoke oil fluid is then pumped from the tank to a spray nozzle located at the exhaust outlet of the turbine (thrust nozzle). The smoke oil is then...

Jets from Black Holes - do they carry momentum?

Q: do jets from Black Holes carry away the momentum from Black holes - in any form? Is matter in these jets rotating? Or may be particles carry the same spin?

    Jets, R-paramater (resolution)

Hello, I was wondering about this R-parameter that we have in Jet finding algorithms, what is it? How does it change the "physics" when we do jet findings in analysis? Any good introductory material would be really great if I could acquire it :-)

Hypernova release two huge jets of gamma rays

I know that a Hypernova release two huge jets of gamma rays, but I'm not real sure on how they are formed. Also it was mentioned that by following the burst of gamma rays, we're looking back in time. How is this actually possible. I have a shaky grasp on the idea.

Understanding Superluminal Jets and Accretion Emissions from Black Holes

Quatum Mechanics Explains Black Hole Jets

I just had general question about weather or not QM forces a limit on the minimum volume of a BH as well as explains the jets emitted by BH's. It seems obvious that QM would limit the minimum volumn of a BH based on Heisenbergs uncertainty principal. If the volumn were unbounded and could...

Formation of Relativistic Jets from Black Holes

I was recently watching a program when "gas" jets, or more properly, plasma jets became a topic. In regards to black holes, I am interested in how such jets can form. I believe that it has something to do with the magnetic fields around a BH, but I am unsure as to how plasma jets form, and...

Why do smaller holes shoot higher jets of water?

So I know that F = P*A When you put a nozzle on a hose the area is smaller so does the pressure increase and the force stay the same, does the pressure stay the same and the force increase, or do they both change? Also if you poke a hole in the bottom of a bucket full of water will the...

W/Z Boson Decays: Quark-Antiquark Pairs to Hadron Jets
