AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the feasibility of an engine operating with a heat input of 9kJ at 375K and a heat output of 4kJ at 225K. It suggests that while the engine does not violate the second law of thermodynamics, determining its efficiency requires comparison to a Carnot cycle. If the engine's efficiency exceeds that of the Carnot cycle, it would be deemed impossible. The conversation emphasizes the importance of thermodynamic principles in evaluating engine performance. Overall, understanding these concepts is crucial for assessing the viability of such an engine configuration.

Is it possible for an engine to have a heat imput per second of 9kJ (Qh) at 375K (T) and a heat output per second of 4kJ (Ql) at 225K (T)? Offhand it seems probable; the engine has an exhaust and does not violate the second law of thermodynamics, however, I'm not sure of what equation would help me determine whether or not this is possible.
