Is fractal universe with determinism possible?

In summary, the possibility of a model where the universe possesses the following qualities altogether - all quantum fields being effective fields, gravity being an effective field, local realism or superdeterminism, and a preferred frame of reference - could lead to the reversal of an analog of RG flow and the generation of a mathematical fractal. This is supported by papers by Gonzalez-Meistres mentioning the possibility of 1+4 and an abstract of "Quantum Field Theory as Manifestation of Fractal Geometry" discussing the theoretical arguments from the Path Integral formulation and the Renormalization Group.

Is it possible, that all quantum fields are effective?

  • No, there are fundamental fields.

I'd like to know your opinion. Do you think the universe could posses the following qualities altogether?

1) All quantum fields are effective fields
2) Gravity is an effective field
3) Local realism (possibly superdeterminism)
4) There is a preferred frame of reference

It seems to me, that there is a possibility, that in such a model an analog of RG flow could be reversed. I envision it as an analog of generation of a mathematical fractal ('fractal zoom').

Papers by Gonzalez-Meistres mentioned the possibility of 1+4. A also find considerations of an abstract of the paper "Quantum Field Theory as Manifestation of Fractal Geometry" very convincing:"We discuss two theoretical arguments strongly suggesting that the continuum limit of Quantum Field Theory (QFT) leads to fractal geometry. The first argument stems from the Path Integral formulation of QFT, whereas the second one is an inevitable consequence of the Renormalization Group (RG)."

1. What is a fractal universe?

A fractal universe is a theoretical concept in which the structure of the universe is made up of self-similar patterns at different scales. This means that the same patterns and structures can be observed at both the largest and smallest levels of the universe.

2. What is determinism?

Determinism is the philosophical idea that all events, including human actions, are ultimately determined by causes external to the will. This means that everything in the universe has a cause and effect, and the future is already predetermined by the present.

3. Is a fractal universe with determinism possible?

There is no definitive answer to this question as it is still a topic of debate among scientists and philosophers. Some argue that the complex and chaotic nature of the universe makes it impossible for determinism to exist, while others believe that the laws of physics and mathematics suggest a deterministic universe.

4. What evidence supports the idea of a fractal universe?

Currently, there is no concrete evidence to support the existence of a fractal universe. However, some scientists have found self-similar patterns in the cosmic microwave background radiation, which is the leftover radiation from the Big Bang. This has led to speculation that the universe may have fractal properties.

5. How does the concept of a fractal universe with determinism impact our understanding of free will?

If a fractal universe with determinism is proven to be true, it would suggest that free will is an illusion and that our actions are predetermined by the laws of the universe. This would have significant implications for philosophy and ethics, as well as our understanding of consciousness and decision-making.
