IMO, personality-type probably has something to do with it (i.e. http://www.personalitypage.com/INFJ.html)... Some people are better than others at picking up the details, putting details together to create an order or pattern that makes sense, and making better inferences as a results...

(1) Thing to do #1: Go the Whistler route (stop by) and then drive to Lilloet... Make sure you take lots of film :wink:

IMO, you should probably start with Microsoft Frontpage. A book to go along with it is 'The Complete Reference FrontPage 2000' by Martin S. Matthews. After reading this book and going through FrontPage, you should be in the right direction to having a practical, beginning grasp on web...
Perhaps giving the guy in your image some facial movements would build some more 'character'- and thus, make the pic a bit more interesting...
