Recent measurements suggest the universe it is flat and infinite
The new results, presented by Schlegel and his colleagues here today (Jan. 8) at the 223rd meeting of the American Astronomical Society, also provide one of the best-ever determinations...
Time should have not have happened in infinite gravity of the Big bang Singularity.
Einsteins General relativity suggest that time could not exist in a gravity field that was infinite.
Thus, my question is how did the universe emerge from the Big Bang moment , if time and space did not yet...
Eidos,
Right It is due to entropy that we die, because we humans are part of the universe and the grand order of existence. As of now, we do not know how macro Entropy can ever be reversed. Present observation shows that the expansion of the universe is not slowing down, but accelerating...
Guys,
While the sun mass does decrease over billions of years, its volume increases.
The sun will, therefore, in about 5 billion years become a red giant and engulf the earth.
So the original question "why does a planet not fall into the sun:? is a valid one

Gendou2,
So the forum needs protection from my exotic mind! By wild speculation I meant "scientific wild speculation" of the kind Einstein (imagined himself riding on a beam of light) or Newton, (what is gravity).I do not equate myself with these great minds ,but please allow me to think...
:cool:If the Universe is only 14 billion years old, how can we see objects that are now 47 billion light years away?
When talking about the distance of a moving object, we mean the spatial separation NOW, with the positions of both objects specified at the current time. In an expanding Universe...
Light while it is not matter, and has no mass it is pure energy in the form of photons . Light is, however,is "something" and a black hole will suck up "anything" that comes too near it, including light

Cernole,
Yes this is the exact case with the planet Uranus where the planet is tipped on its axis to the degree that the poles always face in the direction of the sun. Thus one day equals a year on this strange world.

WALLACE,
I DELIBERATELY DID NOT GIVE DETAILS ABOUT VELOCITIES THIS EXERCISE SHOULD BE CONSIDERED FROM THE VIEW POINT OF SENTIENT BEING LIVING ON THE PLANETS TRYING TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM (S). BY OBSERVATION THEY CAN ESTABLISH THE MASS OF EACH PLANET AND HOW THEY RELATE TO ONE ANOTHER
AND BY...
Hi,
I would like you people to approach these problem of an infinite universe, which contains only three identical objects, say planets of equal volume and mass at equal distance from one another:
Scenario 1) They all hover in the sky not moving relative to one another. Are they all...
Marcus
Yes Marcus ignorance of the basics of physical science can be frustrating to us who are debating present progress.
I would not like to see this forum descend into wild conjecture and speculation. We should state what is known by present modalities and then try to move further on...
Marcus,
Ah! common QC picture but is it truth? By Cyclic bouncing universe expands ,contracts back to second singularity and expands again a little less in each expansion/ contraction, like a rubber ball bouncing until it finally comes to rest. Entropy will do the trick for this mode of...
Nice question,
We are on a knife edge balance that could be disastrously tipped in the wrong direction if serious action is not taken by humanity now, rather than later.
Global warming
