Can a planet exist with such small radius and high acceleration rate?
While humans can take 1g and 0g with ease separately, whether they can take a 75% toe-to-head gradient is a different issue. A couple of studies (1 and 2) indicate artificial gravity gradient should not exceed 8% per meter ("optimal"). A later study3 gives a significantly...- alpha372

Graduate Existence of a small planet (theoretically)
Thanks, this is all interesting stuff (next time show your work! hehe). I also assumed that being in a space suit was a given... I didn't even think about the possibility that it might actually have an atmosphere (the thing is so small).- alpha372

Why is sqr(-4) not a real number again?
To answer my own question directly, and save everyone some time from trying to explain what doesn't need to be explained (i.e, I don't care about how things look on a graph; I wanted to know the error in the logic, which has been pointed out several times already anyway) the problem is, I'd...- alpha372

Why is sqr(-4) not a real number again?
How would you prove that sqrt(-4) is not a number? I argue that it is in fact a number -- a complex number to be exact. Complex numbers are a subset of what we call, "numbers", therefore, I find your statement, "Plus sqrt(-4) is not a number. It's more of an expression." to be false.- alpha372

Why is sqr(-4) not a real number again?
The top half is very helpful to my issue- thanks, I'm making a note of it. The bottom half was irrelevant to the question.- alpha372

I didn't ask if you thought it needed a proof. I asked how it could be done.- alpha372

Can a planet exist with such small radius and high acceleration rate?
LOL. Sorry, I didn't mean to get on your defensive side, lol. Thanks for the laugh. About the whole, "anything can happen" in quantum mechanics world; I prefer to stick to the ordinary. And in ordinary circumstances, we would have to wait a really long long time for such a "just happened...- alpha372

Why is sqr(-4) not a real number again?
Homework Statement I know that the square root of a negative number is not a real number, but I can't remember the logic that gets to that. Homework Equations The Attempt at a Solution I've read, "the square root of (-4) is not a real number because there is no real number you can...- alpha372

Can a planet exist with such small radius and high acceleration rate?
I guess what I meant by star was that it had to be something between a white dwarf and neutron star because of it's density. I think most white dwarfs could be considered too hot to walk on, right? My logic is that the density of this thing is around 10^11, and practically all elements that...- alpha372

Graduate Existence of a small planet (theoretically)
Yes, I want a "small planet" or thing, to be naturally occurring; I want the universe to be able to construct it; not humans or "divine" intervention. 20 meters isn't a bad size though... The basic idea is that it be small so that you could tell by walking that you were going around something...- alpha372

Can a planet exist with such small radius and high acceleration rate?
You're right-- I didn't carefully consider the definition of a planet. Thanks for pointing this out. I should have said something along the lines of "object in space cool enough to walk on. " And for simplicity, I'd like to first assume that this object is pretty much uniform in density. But I...- alpha372
