Glass transition temperature; slowly cooling it

Getting an answer isn't looking good (many looks, no replies). I think the problem is a lot more difficult then I believe it to be. For example Fused quartz is a glass that is made of melting high purity sillica and the result has a melting point that is quite high (1715 degrees celcius)...

Glass transition temperature; slowly cooling it

Weird that this post was moved to physics; after all I learned these concepts in a chemistry class (which is why I posted in chemistry). Still if a physicist can answer this question well, no harm done.

Glass transition temperature; slowly cooling it

One aspect of glasses that has confused me was the fact that the transition temperature Tg drops as you slow the rate of cooling. This has confused me because if the glass is slowly becoming more crystalline, then I would of thought that the Tg would start climbing up towards the crystal melt...

Layman understanding Atom movement with added energy

If you have a deep enough understanding of any topic, I think explaining it to the layman does become easier. The trick is explaining it in such a way as to communicate with the fewest errors possible (or without the reciever misunderstanding); that is an invaluable skill. Thanks once again...

Layman understanding Atom movement with added energy

Hey thanks for replying, I did type up a long reply asking more questions, but found myself bombarded by new questions and a little tired so gave up on it. You have explained things pretty well although I have probably more questions than before. The vibration and kinetic movement being...

Layman understanding Atom movement with added energy

Hello there, I've for a long time thought that movement energy is transferred through collisions, one atom hits another and transfers it's momentum (Billiard balls). When they're stuck in a rigid structure like a metal, they vibrate until the energy of vibration exceeds the energy of their...

How do electrons move through a conductor

Hi there, I have lately tried to revisit electronics again after a long hiatus. Unfortunately, I am having trouble with basics (which was originally what helped me to fail my post-school education). I've always been interested in particles and their physics and have spent a bit of time...
