Undergrad What is the difference between symmetric and antisymmetric relations?
i was wondering what you meant by distinct? distinct = they explicitly state that x,y is a specific number? like (3,5) is distinct and (v,a) is not? sorry for so much questions, i just don't get why I am not getting it =/ is there an easier way for you to explain it? i feel really stupied...- camboguy

Undergrad What is the difference between symmetric and antisymmetric relations?
so in summary if i see for example (1,2) (2,1) it is not anti symmetric but it is symmetric. and if i never see a pattern with (x,y) ex (1,2) and (y,x) (2,1) then it is not anti symmetric. is that right so far? can u give me an example where it is anti symmetric and symmetric?- camboguy

Undergrad What is the difference between symmetric and antisymmetric relations?
okay so i have looked up things online and they when other ppl explain it it still doesn't make sense. I am working on a few specific problems. R = {(2,1),(3,1),(3,2),(4,1),(4,2),(4,3)} the book says this is antisysmetric by sayingthat this relation has no pair of elements a and b with a...- camboguy

What is the average speed of a freely falling body starting from rest?
Homework Statement if a freely falling body starts from rest, then its displacement is given by s = (1/2) g(t^2). let the velocity after a time T be vsubt. Show that if we compute the average of the velocities with respect to t we get vsubave = (1/2)vsubt, but if we compute the average of...- camboguy

Clarifying the Use of C1 in Step 3: Solution to Homework Problem
Homework Statement Hello, this is the solution to a problem that i am doing and the only thing i am confused about is why the C1 in the third step is = to − 1/2 ln 2 √3 as stated in the last line. =√3/2 sec θ − 1/2 ln |sec θ + tanθ| + C1 that is all i am confused about but i get...- camboguy

Integration by parts help just the beginning part for this one
Homework Statement intergral from pi to 0. of (sin(3t)dt)^4 The Attempt at a Solution okay so i know how to do this but when i tried substitution putting 3t=u and (1/3)du= dt i always came with the the wrong coefficient at the end with the answer and so i would multiply it...- camboguy
