Can Diffraction Gratings Resolve Close Wavelengths in Visible Light Spectrum?

Am I missing something like it must be a maximum intensity or something? Can anyone point me towards a website on second-order spectrum stuff, i have looked can't find any decent information on the topic (only general ideas)

Doppler effect, offset from line of effect

Ahh good idea, so your saying find the an equivalent velocity (or proportion) of the ambulance in the direction straight towards the observer that makes sense. thanks

Can Diffraction Gratings Resolve Close Wavelengths in Visible Light Spectrum?

Homework Statement A line corresponding to light of the wavelength 519.8 nm is observed at an angle 12 degrees in the second-order spectrum of a diffraction grating. The grating is 1 cm in width, what is the line spacing of the grating? how many per centimetre? what is the lowest order...

Resonance (standing waves) in glass tube with water

Ah thank you so much its is 0.5 meter wave length, that formula is wrong (my fault) and now I get the right sort of answers being 0.125, 0.375, 0.625 and 0.875 m thanks again

Resonance (standing waves) in glass tube with water

Or another question is what made you choose to divide by 4? (want to learn a method so I can do future questions)

Resonance (standing waves) in glass tube with water

    165 Hz giving L=4*f/(n*v) n=1: L = 4*165/(1*340) = 1.9 m n=3: L = 4*165/(3*340) = .647 m n=5: L = 4*165/(5*340) = 0.388 m which is in the right area but don't i want resonate frequency which would be a full oscillation?

Doppler effect, offset from line of effect

sorry lots of reading but i wanted to explain what I've done (tried to do) Homework Statement An ambulance has a loud siren, which emits a pure note at 5100Hz. A man 20 m from a straight road along which the ambulance is travelling, and records the frequency of the sound he hears from the...

Resonance (standing waves) in glass tube with water

If it helps you can ignore the link, only have to treat the water as closed end, the only problem is the above is still wrong (teacher gave us a hint). I don't understand what I'm doing wrong I believe its the right formula and also the right method am I stuffing up units?

Doppler effect, moving car and whistle

So my method is right? If anyone has spare time on their hands to double check my answers that will be much appreciated (i'm a little foggy in the air and would love to know if I'm getting the right answer)

    Domain/range of inverse functions

There are several ways to approach this question, how did you find the domain? by observation? or trial and error? or did you approach this a more formal way. If you attempted by observation or trial and error simply rearrange the equation so it is in terms of x and do the same as what you...

Resonance (standing waves) in glass tube with water

Homework Statement The water level in a vertical glass tube (length 1 m) can be adjusted to any position in the tube. A tunning fork vibrating at 660 Hz is held just over the open end of the tube. calculate at what position of the water level will there be resonance (standing waves) in the...

Doppler effect, moving car and whistle

Homework Statement Sally is a police officer who is standing in an intersection. A car driven by David approaches the intersection at a speed of 75 km/h. Sally blows her whistle (at a frequency of 900 hz) and signals the driver to stop. What does frequency does David hear? (speed of sound is...

Solving Simultaneous Equations: Step-by-Step Guide and Explanation

the question has given 4 variables and only 3 equations so you can not find a,b,c,z what you may be able to do is find a,b,c in terms of z and a constant. to do this continue wih the subsitition of one equation into another treating z as a constant not sure how you got 4a+5b+4c=10...

Electric capacitance adding charged particals, rate

Okay so the question is 15. (a) Calculate the electric capacitance of the Earth. (b) Positively charged cosmic ray particles are known to arrive at Earth at the rate of approximately 1 particle per square centimetre per second. If each particle is assumed to be singly charged...
