Studying How Can I Change My Beliefs About Learning?

Well, at my end of teens, I certainly had not thought on belif on learning per se but I defintely had some spark when i saw a theorem being proved. Some teenagers got the spark when they did a good piece of art though they may not get spark doing proofs in math. The mistake I did or other life...

Studying How Can I Change My Beliefs About Learning?

Hi friends, I have a few set of belifs which are blocking me from enjoying what I learn. Before I begin, 8 years before when I was a teen, I had the set of belifs; 1. I can achieve anything. And achieveing things gives pleasure 2. I must understand everything to the pure math level. That gives...

Analysis Understanding how they thought of math proofs in the first place

Thanks Keith, so I was building up material of 50 years? Is it realistic for a lay person like me to think on how they thought about proofs? I think I myself have to ask why I do math: 1. Am I doing math to rigorously build in structure (say analysis, topology)? 2. Or am i doing math to...

Analysis Understanding how they thought of math proofs in the first place

Thanks Mathwonk. So, is thinking in such a way, good in the long run? Will I lose a lot of time as a result? I see that people who just fill the gaps in proofs move through the material faster rather than knowing how it was thought about. Sometimes, I feel the easier way is faster

Analysis Understanding how they thought of math proofs in the first place

Hi,I am learning pure math say real analysis from Rudin. Now, I am getting confused on philosophy of learning. Well, if I read Rudin, somehow with struggle, I am able to fill the gaps in the proof which he gives. Though I can completely understand the proof, my question is how was the proof...
