    Gravity and periods of oscillation

a mass hanging from a vertical spring and a simple pendulum each have a period of oscillation of 1 sec. If you were to take these devices to another planet where the acceleration due to gravity is greater than on earth, would the period of each device be greater than 1 sec , less than 1 sec, or...

Archer on a Cliff: Can Arrow Reach Mark?

I'm thinking is 0.5*g*t^2=100 supposed to be 0.5*g*t^2=-100 ? ( the only difference is the negative sign in the 100.

Archer on a Cliff: Can Arrow Reach Mark?

hmm You guys make it look so easy... Ok, so 0.5*g*t^2=100 I plug in -9.80 for g and multiply that by 0.5, which gives me -4.9. so I could rewrite the equation as -4.9*t^2=100 If I try to solve for t I get the square root of a negative number which is not possible. ?

Ball thrown upward and elapsed time

displacment negative or positive? For part B, I found the positions to be 11.6m for 1 sec and -12.4m for 4 sec. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to take into consideration the height of the building and add it to those positions, or just state that those are the positions relative to the...

How Does Projectile Angle Affect Range and Height?

I do listen. I just don't get it. That's why I'm here asking for help. No, it's an open notes test

Kinematics: Ball Thrown Upward from Building

    why? why is s -100? I thought it should be +100 ? d=v0*t + 0.5at^2 isn't that the correct formula?

How Does Projectile Angle Affect Range and Height?

That's all the information I have. This seems to complex for high school physics. I thought we were supposed to just learn the basics...

Archer on a Cliff: Can Arrow Reach Mark?

An archer stands on a cliff that is 100m high, shooting at a mark on the ground below 430m away from the bottom of the (vertical) cliff. The archer is capable of shooting an arrow with an initial speed of 35 m/s at any angle you choose. A) If the archer shoots horizontally ( at an angle of...

How Does Projectile Angle Affect Range and Height?

A cannon shoots a projectile at an angle of 60 degrees above the horizontal with an initial speed of 30.0 m/s. A) calculate the maximum height of the projectile and its range ( the horizontal distance traveled when the projectile hits the ground). B) repeat the calculations of part A...

Kinematics: Ball Thrown Upward from Building

kinematics-- ball thrown A ball is thrown upward from the edge of a building that is 100m tall. On its way back down, the ball just misses the building, falling to the ground below. The elapsed time between the throw and the ball hitting the ground is 6.5 sec. A) The initial speed of the...

Ball thrown upward and elapsed time

thanks I couldn't find it anywhere in my book. I still don't understand where the 0.5 came from. I really want to know how physics works instead of plugging and chugging. Thanks for your help. Without brainiacs like you, I would be so lost..
