A general Master's or a bit more specialized?
I'm going for a masters in chem eng, and aside from my 6 general courses, I can also take 4 electives. I'd like to take nanotechnology courses, since that is a field that I am very interested in (but isn't my only option). Do you think this is worth it to "specialize" like this? Since I have the...- fandangou

Is Chem Eng PhD worth it for me, or just Master's?
My main reasons to want to do it would be - because I love to study (both solving problems and doing research) - to feel like I have made a contribution to the field - Also, the title of a PhD is attractive and earns respect; it's like having a huge intellectual penis. - I'm not really in...- fandangou

Refrigeration - Work done by evaporator, condenser, expansion valve
I know that, but I think the point of my question was missed again - what I meant was, how much electricity do I need to supply to the condenser/evaporator to make them function properly by allowing them enough heat exchange? Or can they function without any energy input, and the only energy...- fandangou

Refrigeration - Work done by evaporator, condenser, expansion valve
Thanks everyone, but I think I may have been confused when I first asked this question. If there is no mechanical work done by the condenser or evaporator, how would the energy required to operate the heat exchanger inside them or maintaining them at a certain temperature be calculated?- fandangou

Refrigeration - Work done by evaporator, condenser, expansion valve
In vapor compression refrigeration, I know how to calculate the work done by the compressor (enthalpy at outlet - enthalpy at inlet), but I am lost on how to calculate the work done by the evaporator, condenser, and the expansion valve. For the evaporator and condenser, if I wish to have a...- fandangou

Microbial contaminants in water distillation
Hello all, I have a few questions regarding purification of water of microbial contaminants by boiling. 1. If water containing microbial contamination is boiled, and the vapor is collected, is the condensed vapor going to be free of microbes? I would think so because if the microbes don't die...
