Does the internal energy of the combined system change when ice melts?
I don't agree. This is what I think: I do agree that there is no heat transfer, so Q=0. But the prompt does say that the ice melts, therefore there is a change in volume and since there is a change in volume, we have work done by the system. Because there is work done, we have a change in...- JoshMG

Does the internal energy of the combined system change when ice melts?
PROBLEM: Some warm water is mixed with ice and the ice melts. Assume that the entire process happens in an insulated box. Does the internal energy of the combined (ice+water) system change? Does the entropy of the combined system change? Considering that the ice and water as separate...- JoshMG

Sound: Speakers Woofers vs. Tweeters
Why are speakers that are used to produce low notes such as woofers bigger than speakers used to produce higher notes such as tweeters? The idea that I have is that, lower notes have higher frequency which is harder to hear so in order to hear it has to be produced my a bigger instrument...- JoshMG

Calculating Temperature Uncertainty - Help Needed!
I have a lab and I'm having a hard time calculating or even understanding how to calculate the uncertainty. It wants me to calculate the uncertainty of temperature. Here is my data: time (mins) Temp (°C) 2 23.2 4 26 6 29 8 31.5 10 33.5 12 35.5 14 37.6 16 39.7 18 41.8 20 43.9 Don't I need some...- JoshMG

Calorimetry and Phase change question
haha okay. I'm doing mi((2100*5)+(334000)+(4190*31) = 0.225*4190*44.8 mi = 0.0890 kg ... which is wrong.- JoshMG

Calorimetry and Phase change question
okay, but isn't that what I did? Qwater cools= mw cw (31 - 75.8) (energy lost from ice) and then i come up with 0 = Qice warms + Qice melts + Q mix of + Qwater cools- JoshMG

Calorimetry and Phase change question
The question is: An insulated beaker with negligible mass contains liquid water with a mass of 0.225 kg and a temperature of 75.8 C. How much ice at a temperature of -23.6 C must be dropped into the water so that the final temperature of the system will be 31.0 C? Take the specific heat of...- JoshMG
