energy question... end my confusion please? energy is the ability to do work..work is displacement and force..force is acceleration and mass...that leads me to the conclusion that energy requires mass...but how about sound energy..i am 99.9 % sure that sound doesn't have mass, then why is there...

so if the displacement is downward i use the weight and if it's horizontal i use the push. am i getting the idea correctly?

my teacher gave the class a quiz and one of the questions was to calculate the work done. the formula for work is force x distance. my problem was that their were two forces given, the weight and the exerted push.. which one should i have used?

I asked this question because I've read sources always stopping if their weights are EQUAL..never saying if the boat was lighter that it could still be possible then...why is it that those sources never mention the lighter thing/part...
