Undergrad Stopping distance: Locked wheel skidding & rolling tyres
Could you please elaborate and explain the application of static/ kenetic energy theory in the case study as per the original example. I am not a physics expert and would like to understand.- Langmarais

Undergrad Stopping distance: Locked wheel skidding & rolling tyres
Why is it that a vehicle travels further when skidding with locked wheels than when decelerating with rolling, braked wheels in conventional, non-abs vehicles.- Langmarais

Undergrad Friction, heat, time & surface area
Thanx Q_Goest I have been dealing with a case where the brakes on a bus, traveling down a mountain pass, severely overheated and the bus ran out of control, resulting in a fatal collision. The incident was the result of "brake fade", caused by an obvious significant reduction in co-efficient...- Langmarais

Undergrad Friction, heat, time & surface area
Thank you Q_Goest for your reply. Would the fact that the same amount of work (friction) is done in a smaller area not affect the rate at which the heat increases. Why would trucks have larger brake shoes/ -pads if surface area is not important. Is there a formula one can use to calculate the...- Langmarais

Undergrad Friction, heat, time & surface area
Would it be possible to calculate the time it would take for heat to reach a given temperature between two rubbing surfaces and would the size/ area of contact influence the time if the co-efficient of friction and applied force remains constant. E.g:Let's say you have two wheel brake assemblies...- Langmarais
