B On time dilation and length contraction

As a total amateur, my guess is that Universe Function is asking for a way of calculating the "Speed Of Time" (can I say that?) in locations where the average gravity is different from where we are standing. For example, something that has been been puzzling me is that the edges of our galaxy...

Special Bond between Dogs and Humans?

Not so much an opinion, as an attempt to view the human/dog relationship from Mother Nature’s view point. Blessed be! Here is citation from dark days in the recent past, when pets where seen as rivals to available resources. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-24478532

Special Bond between Dogs and Humans?

Joke. I was referring to this very discussion. I was responding to PeterDonis who uses “Marvin the Martian” as an avatar. :-)

Special Bond between Dogs and Humans?

The perceived benefit of a dog companion will reduce the essential loneliness that is an innate drive to seek out the company of our own species. The genuine reciprocal support of friends and family are of real material benefit. The love and loyalty given by pets is a lure to subvert this drive...

Special Bond between Dogs and Humans?

We enjoy the company of dogs and the very real love and loyalty they give. To fake it would be overly complex and unnecessary. Whether or not it is of benefit to us is a matter of opinion. My Tara for example, gives me exercise when otherwise I might stay indoors when the weather is bad. Not...

Special Bond between Dogs and Humans?

Not quite what I was trying to say, but close enough.

Special Bond between Dogs and Humans?

The widely held belief that us humans are responsible for selectively breeding the domestic dog from the grey wolf is mistaken. At first the similar hunting techniques of man and wolf made co-operation between the two species an advantage to both. There would be a competition amongst the wolves...

Special Bond between Dogs and Humans?

Dogs are wolves that have discovered a new ecological niche and have become parasitic on the planet's new dominant species - Ourselves. Like many other parasites they have found ways of manipulating their host’s behaviour to their own advantage. The main driving force behind their evolution...

B Why does a LIGO arm stretch and not move in unison?

Protected from Spaghettification with the assistance of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, I drop into a black hole. I notice no sign of time slowing down or, disappointingly, of any sign of Schwarzschild’s event horizon. I continue to fall inwards towards the singularity, but just as I am about to...

B Why does a LIGO arm stretch and not move in unison?

Sorry, I should have added "to an outside observer."

B Why does a LIGO arm stretch and not move in unison?

Yet gravity does effect time. Even in wave form without the usual accompanying heavy stuff. Should two gravitational waves cross each other, at the intersection, might not a black hole form, where time stops altogether? forgive me, It’s getting very late and the mind wanders. good night!

B Why does a LIGO arm stretch and not move in unison?

As far as I understand a gravitational wave flexes the whole of space/time spreading across the firmament like a ripple on a pond, but it seems to me that would not only stretch and squash the machine and the scientists operating it, but also include time and so the apparent speed of light.
