Calculating Artificial Gravity for a Rotating Space Station

Indeed. I didn't take into account the effects of relativity from the Sun, Solar System, etc. But do those carnival rides not rely upon the gravity of earth? Which of course, once we leave the Earth's gravitational influence, the Sun's, assuming we are in orbit around it, becomes relatively...

Calculating Artificial Gravity for a Rotating Space Station

Indeed, I agree, to quote your last sentence, if rocket were to accelerate but I reiterate myself AGAIN, the theory I saw did not propose constant acceleration, it theorized a constant velocity. It was not under constant acceleration but instead a constant velocity. Therefore, there would be...

Calculating Artificial Gravity for a Rotating Space Station

If you are moving at a constant 10m/s in a spaceship and jump at 1m/s you are then moving at 1m/s relative to the spaceship and are therefore no longer under acceleration. The theory I saw did not propose constant acceleration, merely a constant velocity.

Calculating Artificial Gravity for a Rotating Space Station

Indeed if a constant acceleration of 10m/s^2 were POSSIBLE then gravity would be felt. But we all know that that is not possible over such a great distance. The energy does not exist to constantly accelerate at that rate, therefore the ship must stop accelerating at some point in order to A)...

Calculating Artificial Gravity for a Rotating Space Station

Hi As I'm sure we're all aware, there are many planned missions to Mars. Given its distance (some 3 years away given today's tech) by the time any humans make it there, their muscles would be completely useless on account of wastage as a result of no gravity. Therefore, artificial gravity is...

Why Does Carbonated Soda Burn Our Nostrils?

I was thinking that and came up with a theory. Soda (let's use coke as an example) is an acid. When the acid hits the neutralized HCL acid in your stomach, it de-neutralizes it. So in order to get rid of the acid, the stomach some what 'turns' it into a gas, releasing it. With the HCL and...

Why Does Carbonated Soda Burn Our Nostrils?

Yea. This is probably the most idiotic question ever asked here. But hey, you don't find out unless you ask out. You know when you drink carbonated soda, then burp down your nose, it really really burns? How come this happens? I thought it over, and it couldn't really be the CO2 as...

Nuclear Batteries: Engineers Converting Radioactive Decay to Power

Thermal battaries are very smart, but I highly doubt they will ever make it onto the shelfs for public use. Can you immagine haveing two AA size nuclear battaries? You drop your CD player and the country goes up in smoke!

Making Snow with Non-Water Chemicals: A Guide

Theoretically I wouldn't think so, as snow is ice crystles made from water. So no water, no ice crystles, no snow.

    Detecting volcanic ash or meteor.

Well infinitetime, if you think how long science has been around, and how much of whatever that science has, we only have some 40,000 meteor samples. That's really quite little concidering the amount of meteorites floating around up there.

    Detecting volcanic ash or meteor.

Your idea is feasable, but what are the odds?

    Detecting volcanic ash or meteor.

Already tested it. It sinks alright. I currently have a very small piece in a shot glass filled with warm water, vinegar and sugar. Over the past hour or so it's definitley began to erode away. When I first added it to just water, bubbles came from the sample. That's probably just air in the...
