To solve the unsolvable differential equation

hmm, that is a tricky problem. So you're trying to differentiate it right? Find the deriative? It looks like an implicit differentiation problem, but I am not sure how the "dx" and "dy" fit in there...wouldn't it be an integration problem if dy and dx are in the equation? I'm probably not...

What Is the Equation to Minimize the Cost of a Cylinder with Given Volume?

I get what you mean, and agree about the surface area. It seems I was underestimating the problem before, haha. The circumference aspect asks for both, the top and bottom, (so 2 times that). I've been messing around with it and I know that once you differntiate the problem, you should just be...

    Question Involving implicit Differentiation

Oh I see, I am sorry for the misunderstanding. Yea, that's what I am trying to do right now. Essentially, I am trying to get it to be (dy/dx)= (variables here) I think I may have figured it out. After going through, I get -3/3 when I plug in (-1,-1) so, in other words I get -1 as my answer...

    Question Involving implicit Differentiation

Im not too sure what you mean? You mean plug in x= -1 and y=-1 into the equation? How would you take the derivative of that though? If you plug in numbers for the variables, you will come out with a number... a constant. The derivative of a constant is just zero... I am pretty sure (though I...

What Is the Equation to Minimize the Cost of a Cylinder with Given Volume?

Sorry to post another problem, but hey, the more the marrier, right? Homework Statement maxima/minima problem 2)a cylinder, including top and bottom, is made from material which costs "x" dollars per square inch. Suppose there is an additional cost of fabrication given by "n"...

    Question Involving implicit Differentiation

Hi! I have a problem here that's been bugging me. I was wondering if anyone can give insight into where I'm going wrong implicit differentiation problem 1) (x^2+y^2)/(x+y)=xy-2 find derivitive (dy/dx) at point (-1, -1) I know the basic premise. I used the quotient rule to find the...
