Don't worry, careers related with physics aren't in a bad condition. You should not change your major because of few discouraging comments.
I hope you will consider those recommendations you provided for yourself as well. You should also stop pursuing your engineer degree (if you haven't yet).

Can you share your "anti-physics" thoughts elsewhere? Beside, it seems like you once mentioned having an engineering degree. Why pursue something you hate so much(physics)? Physics is an important field in science. Job prospects for all fields in science aren't as bad as you are...
