A problem in finding enthelpy of metal oxides
Arrange the energy released upon hydration of Magnesium Oxide, calcium oxide, barium oxide, strontium oxide. I placed Magnesium oxide at the last, since magnesium hydroxide is a stable so lot of energy must be released in order to achieve that state, but the answer says calcium oxide.- vijayram

What is the work done by friction in a sliding and rolling ring?
Thank you very much sir for replying but it actually happened that both options were there in the question when my answer matched with one of those,I didn't check the others.- vijayram

What is the work done by friction in a sliding and rolling ring?
Homework Statement A uniform ring of mass m and radius r is projected horizontally with velocity v on a rough horizontal floor,so that it starts off with a pure sliding motion and it acquires a pure rolling motion after moving a distance d.If the coeffcient of friction between ground and ring...- vijayram

Calculating Capillary Height with Surface Tension: A Question on Homework
Homework Statement [/B] Water rises in a capillary tube to certain height such that the upward surface due to surface tension is balanced by 7.5 X 10-4N Force due to weight of the liquid. If the surface tension of water is 6 X 10-2Nm-1,the inner circumference of the capillary must be Homework...- vijayram

Undergrad A doubt from Kinetic Theory of Gases
I have read Average translation kinetic energy is 1/2RT per degree of freedom and Average translation kinetic energy for an ideal gases is 3/2RT.How? Does it imply f=3 for all ideal gases? -

Understanding Heat Transfer in a Closed System with a Moving Piston
but sir, external pressure is constant and is equal to 1 pascal but internal pressure changes with the position of the piston. And the numbers didn't match sir.Could it be like this sir?when the external agent is also taken into account,it comphensates, and the piston cannot move on it's own.- vijayram

Understanding Heat Transfer in a Closed System with a Moving Piston
oh yes i think the same sir,so atmospheric pressure is not equal to internal pressure of the gas and it could be found only through the gas laws.Am i right sir?- vijayram

Understanding Heat Transfer in a Closed System with a Moving Piston
but the piston is massless so according to Newton's law f=ma,m=0 so net external force should be equal to zero.- vijayram

Understanding Heat Transfer in a Closed System with a Moving Piston
sir i solved the problem and got k/100R as the answer, but i have one more additional doubt, the piston is massless so net force on the piston should be zero or external pressure should be equal to internal pressure,or internal pressure should be equal to atmospheric pressure, but the pressure...- vijayram
