Dave, I sell such a 12v PMDC gear motor. Search for wondermotor and check out the specs. Make sure you don't apply heavy radial and axial bearing loads on the shaft.

What kind of motor is it that runs the pump? Series wound or PMDC? I hope you have a PMDC motor and a 12v PWM controller is definitely the way to go.
