Undergrad What is the force on the wire given the information below....
OK, So solved this with the help of a couple others. The rotating reel has an arm attached to it that puts pressure on a a cylinder. We now the dimensions of the reel as per above and the surface area of the cap of the cylinder and the current pressure the cylinder is developing. We also know... -
Undergrad What is the force on the wire given the information below....
I actually did it wrong, the reel acts as a fulcrum, so there is some mechanical advantage. I know the actual force pulling on the wire is between 50klbs and 72klbs, per the load attached. -
Undergrad What is the force on the wire given the information below....
Need a little assistance, and yes I should know how to answer this but... The project is from an Oil and Gas system. Deadline anchor and load cell. a reel has wire rope on it that acts on an arm that puts pressure on a load cell. I'm trying to back calculate the force in lbs on the wire rope... -
How do I calculate the required torque for a drum with a wire rope load?
Confused, why subract one inch? the total diameter would be 2 X Rope diameter + Root Drum Diameter- wzrdstrm

How do I calculate the required torque for a drum with a wire rope load?
Simple design only, not for commerical review/standards. We have a motor connected to a gear box (1:1) ratio, connected to a drum that has wire rope wrapped half way across the drum on the root layer (1st layer). What I am expecting is that that if the drum had a root diameter of 100 inches...- wzrdstrm

How do I calculate the required torque for a drum with a wire rope load?
I'm doing some work were its necessary to calculate the force acting on a drum via a wire rope. If I have a known weight acting on the rope already and I want to back calculate the minimum torque necessay for a motor connected to that drum to hold that load, do I add the diameter of the rope to...- wzrdstrm

Can DOGA DO11137612B003018 Lift 90kgs 48"?
Jobrag, I have a question please. If this was an application with a rope wrapped around the drum, would we not consider the diameter of the rope in addtion to the radius of the drum to back calculate the force necessary?- wzrdstrm

Undergrad How do I determine lifting force
Gentlemen please. I am trying to find out how much a motor can lift through a gear reduction to a drum connected a block and tackle assembly. The motor can develop 16K N-M of torque, through a gear reduction of 7.51, turning a drum having a diameter of 1 meter, using 0.0508 meter rope. there...
