Based on what other people have said, it looks like your expected value numbers are wrong. If you put $500 into the pot, you have a 50% of winning $500 and a 50% chance of losing $500 giving an expected value of $0.00, not $250.00 If you put $10 into the pot, you have a 1% chance of winning...
