Discussion Overview

The discussion focuses on the challenges faced by a student studying applied mathematics who is struggling with physics exercises, particularly in mechanics. The participant seeks resources to improve their problem-solving skills in physics, specifically through equations.

Discussion Character

  • Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses difficulty in solving physics exercises despite a background in mathematics and seeks resources to improve.
  • Another participant inquires about the level of physics being studied, suggesting a first-year undergraduate context.
  • The original poster indicates they may need to start with late high school level material due to lacking foundational knowledge.
  • A suggestion is made to use Schaum's outline series, specifically recommending "Schaum's 3,000 Solved Problems in Physics" as a resource for solved problems.
  • The original poster expresses appreciation for the book recommendation and requests additional websites for further learning.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree on the need for resources to aid in learning physics, but there is no consensus on the specific level of material that would be most beneficial for the original poster.

Contextual Notes

The discussion reflects uncertainty regarding the appropriate starting level for physics study and the specific resources that would best suit the original poster's needs.

Who May Find This Useful

Hello all.
I don't have much time.. I'm studying applied maths and I've got a mandatory course of physics. I find it the hardest of all courses. Despite the fact that physics exercises are based heavily on math, I hardly succeed in solving it.

What I seek to develop is, specifically, an ability to solve physics exercises, focused chiefly on equations, in the field of mechanics. After I build the skill in solving mechanics exercises, I'll probably be able to adapt to other fields. If you could recommend me any web-sites or books for a physics beginner, I'd appreciate it.

Well, I am a first year undergrad, but I don't possesses the required knowledge that one should. I thought maybe I should begin at late high school level, but I'm not sure. Just throw at me whatever you have.
