Where Can I Learn About Prandtl's Theory on Aircraft Footprints?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

Prandtl's theory on aircraft footprints describes how an aircraft generates a subtle pressure change on the Earth's surface as it flies overhead. This phenomenon, attributed to the work of Ludwig Prandtl, illustrates the impact of aerodynamics on environmental pressure. The discussion highlights the need for resources that delve into this theory, particularly books that explain the mechanics behind the pressure changes and their implications over large areas.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of basic aerodynamics principles
  • Familiarity with pressure dynamics in fluid mechanics
  • Knowledge of Ludwig Prandtl's contributions to aerodynamics
  • Ability to interpret scientific literature on atmospheric effects
NEXT STEPS
  • Research Ludwig Prandtl's original papers on aerodynamics
  • Explore books specifically addressing pressure changes caused by aircraft
  • Investigate the environmental impact of aircraft on atmospheric pressure
  • Learn about modern applications of Prandtl's theories in aerospace engineering
USEFUL FOR

Aerospace engineers, environmental scientists, students of aerodynamics, and anyone interested in the effects of aircraft on atmospheric pressure.

Does anybody know of a book that addreses/talks about how Prandtl showed that an aircraft passing overhead will leave a "footprint" on the Earth in the form of an extremely small pressure change over a huge area?

There's a thread about that around here somewhere, from maybe a month or so back.
