AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around the vocalizations of local red foxes during their mating season, described as surprisingly similar to human female sounds. Participants express curiosity about these calls, with one suggesting that the sounds can be alarming, especially when heard at night. A YouTube video is referenced as a way to illustrate these unique sounds, although it is noted that the recording does not capture the true essence of the local foxes' calls. The conversation also touches on past experiences with a fox kit found in the backyard, highlighting the close interactions people have with wildlife in their neighborhoods.

Because the local red fox population is feeling amorous tonight.

And do you know what amorous red foxes sound like?

If I use any descriptors that come to the forefront of my mind, Mr. Berkeman is likely to give me another weinie point for offending somebody.

You're going to have to listen to this YouTube video to believe it.

Not the best recording, my local ones sound much more like human women.

I've heard similar calls in the neighborhood, in the wee hours of the morning. The first time, I thought it might be someone in distress. We have found a kit in our back yard in the past.

Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
