SUMMARY

Applying for a PhD in Europe typically requires a Master's degree, particularly in fields like Physics. Most European institutes prioritize candidates with a Master's, making it challenging for Bachelor's degree holders to compete effectively. While some institutes may allow direct applications to PhD programs without a Master's, the competition remains steep. Therefore, pursuing a Master's degree is strongly recommended for those interested in advancing to a PhD in General Relativity and compact object binary systems.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of European higher education admission requirements
  • Knowledge of General Relativity and compact object binary systems
  • Familiarity with Master's degree programs in Physics
  • Awareness of academic advising resources
NEXT STEPS
  • Research Master's programs in Physics focusing on General Relativity
  • Explore academic advising services at your current institution
  • Connect with alumni from Master's programs for feedback
  • Investigate PhD application processes at various European institutes
USEFUL FOR

Prospective PhD candidates in Physics, particularly those interested in General Relativity, as well as academic advisors and students seeking guidance on graduate program pathways in Europe.

Hello,

this year I am getting my Bachelor in Physics. Do you know if it's possible to apply for a PhD, without getting a Master, in Europe? The field I am interested in is General Relativity and compact object binary systems, my thesis is on the same topic.
Thanks

Most European institutes will require a Master before admitting you to a graduate program.

Even if you would find an institute where this is not a requirement, you would be competing with people that do have a Master and therefore very likely be sorted out in the selection process.

Bottom line: You should get a Master if you want to enter a PhD program.

thanks for the response.

Do you have any Master's program recommendation on the topics I mentioned? I have found a few myself but I do not know anyone that has been though them so I can get feedback.

Don't you have any kind of academic adviser ?
