SUMMARY

The discussion centers on selecting an appropriate journal for submitting articles in High Energy Physics, specifically in formal theory. The user seeks advice on choosing between the Journal of High Energy Physics (JHEP) and Physical Review D (PRD), noting that their article exceeds ten pages, thus excluding Physical Review Letters (PRL) as an option. Participants emphasize that both JHEP and PRD publish similar content, but perceptions of their prestige vary among senior professors and reviewers. The consensus indicates that while journal choice is important, citation impact ultimately holds greater significance.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of High Energy Physics formal theory
  • Familiarity with academic journal ranking and impact factors
  • Knowledge of citation metrics and their importance in academic publishing
  • Awareness of the submission guidelines for JHEP and PRD
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the impact factors and citation metrics of JHEP and PRD
  • Explore submission guidelines and formatting requirements for JHEP and PRD
  • Investigate alternative journals in High Energy Physics formal theory
  • Learn about the peer review process and its implications for journal selection
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for researchers in High Energy Physics, particularly those focusing on formal theory, as well as academics seeking to understand journal selection and its impact on citation and visibility in the field.

Hello, I request inputs about selecting a journal to submit an article in High Energy Physics. This is in formal theory as opposed to Particle Phenomenology. The article is more than ten pages so PRL is not an option. How would you choose between JHEP and Physical Review D? Which is rated higher by senior professors (and future reviewers). Are there other journals considered on par with JHEP and PRD.

Thank you in advance for your time and response.

Presumably you are reading those journals. Where does you paper better fit?

Thanks. Both journals seem to publish similar papers (according to me) so I thought I would find out how they are perceived by the community (or even by people in allied areas).

The journal matters less than the citations.
